Most of what I put into production passed through my homelab first. It has been running since 2007 and it is where I break things on purpose — new orchestrators, new filesystems, new init systems — long before any of it touches a cluster somebody depends on.
Quase tudo que eu coloco em produção passou pelo meu homelab antes. Ele roda desde 2007 e é onde eu quebro as coisas de propósito — orquestradores novos, filesystems novos, sistemas de init novos — muito antes de qualquer coisa encostar num cluster do qual alguém depende.
The side projects come from the same place: something annoyed me enough that I wrote a tool for it. A dotfiles manager, a system monitor, a PID 1, an MMORPG server engine.
Os projetos paralelos saem do mesmo lugar: alguma coisa me irritou o suficiente pra eu escrever uma ferramenta. Um gerenciador de dotfiles, um monitor de sistema, um PID 1, uma engine de servidor de MMORPG.

1994 Warcraft: Orcs & Humans. Then Warcraft II in 95, Diablo in 96
1997 Age of Empires. StarCraft the year after
1998 first Linux. Install, break, reinstall, break it until it won't boot at all
2000 Ultima Online. Five years inside it
2005 UO stops being a game and becomes a server. I move to the other side
2007 the homelab starts, and never stops
2026 Greenvale: SimFarm again, in Rust, thirty-three years later

The thread only became obvious to me while writing it down: the first game on that 486 was a farming simulation, and the thing I am building now is a farming simulation. Everything in between — the broken distros, the Ultima Online servers, the homelab — was me walking from one end of that sentence to the other.
O fio só ficou óbvio pra mim enquanto eu escrevia: o primeiro jogo naquele 486 era um simulador de fazenda, e a coisa que estou construindo agora é um simulador de fazenda. Tudo no meio — as distros quebradas, os servidores de Ultima Online, o homelab — fui eu andando de uma ponta dessa frase até a outra.

I stream on Twitch when there is something worth watching me fight with — homelab rebuilds, Rust and Go sessions, and retro games when the cluster is behaving. No fixed schedule and no overlay empire: just a terminal and whatever is broken.
